some thoughts on buying art for the shy

There are a few nudges from me in the July 2018 issue of Seattle Business Magazine, in an article about buying art for people who might not feel confident or know how to get started.

Specifically, I mention Collect Seattle, where you can get a personal tour of art walks (different ones each month), with intros to artists and gallerists, and champagne along the way!

The article coincides with the Seattle Art Fair, and there are some good links at the end to traditional gallery experiences. But for me, nothing replaces getting to know artists personally, going to visit them in their studios, and supporting them by any means necessary–buying work, buying them dinner, supporting their studio rental costs, helping them with materials, promoting their work, or even just showing up on a regular basis to their openings and exhibitions. It means so much.
